Dr K. - Game Addiction Expert

The main purpose of this blog is to help gamers refine their hidden talents into a more refined skill, so they may capitalize on their strengths. I think gamers possess a lot of skill they do not realize and are really talented individuals. I am not the only person who thinks this. There is another, more talented person on the internet that knows more about video games, gaming addiction, and mentoring than I do. I have referred to this person previously, but he is Dr. Alok Kanojia, Twitch streamer and Youtube content creator.

Dr. Kanojia, or how most people refer to him, Dr. K, is an extremely talented Harvard-trained psychiatrist that specializes in gaming addiction. He currently runs a few programs for coaching and mentoring gamers into more well-rounded people. Dr. K has recently started his platform, but has seen nothing but growth since it’s conception.

Dr K. founded the company HealthyGamerGG, which similar to other online companies, focuses on video game addiction and getting tailored experiences to help you achieve personal growth. A majority of HealthyGamerGG’s coaching is conducted by Dr. K himself, but as he has rapidly grown in the last few years, he has expanded his team into other great, qualified psychiatrists. Their goal at HealthyGamer is quite simple, as the world is changing rapidly with technology and the internet, they are a modern approach to helping resolve problems. I believe Dr K. and his team have a perfect mission statement and goal set in place in today’s world.

The internet is a new technology and grew seemingly out of nowhere. Although our technology grew rapidly, humans cannot evolve and adapt to changes that fast. Therefore, we have a lot of problems with FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), hear a lot more about mental health, and dealing with changes impacted by the rapid changes in technology. Without a group of people who understand why the issues are happening and how to fix them, we might not progress our mental health. This is why I truly stand behind this company.

Some people might think HealthyGamer is trying to profit from the needy by charging the mentally ill for therapy, but that is far from the truth. If someone would like personalized coaching they may pay to get that personalized treatment, but Dr K. does a great job of marketing himself and putting out free content for anyone to consume. This is done through his Twitch stream primarily, where he takes either a user or a group of users who signed up – typically who have similar issues – discuss what problems they are having.

This is genius of Dr K. He is getting free marketing for potential users who would like more personalized training, but also is gaining loyal fans and viewers. He streams to a Twitch audience of 10 thousand+ every time he goes live. He is not only creating a market for himself but he is also helping spread the awareness that mental illness is not abnormal. That normal people go through it. I think that alone helps progress society immensely. There are people in this world who are not empaths, who do not relate to the feelings of others. I think going live, attracting a large sum of viewers, normalizing mental illness and providing genuine help to people online is helping create a more pleasant community on the internet.

As the internet has grown, people have become insensitive to one another, letting their personal problems out on random people on the internet. This should not be accepted and I think Dr K. does a good job of making the internet a less toxic place. By promoting and putting down the people who diss others, he calls out why they feel the need to do so. Typically the cause being rooted in some sort of personal problem. Dr K. seems to sensitize the internet and start to make others start to feel for one another. Without him the Internet might not have progressed, becoming a cesspool of toxic people, putting each other down to make themselves feel better.

HealthyGamer is not only marketing themselves on Twitch and on their own website, HealthyGamer.gg, but they are also promoting themselves on Youtube. The Youtube videos produced by Dr K. are typically highlights from his Twitch streams. But this way, it is more refined and more to the point. People will not have to sift through hours of content to learn about one topic. In combination with these refined topics, he also utilizes the Youtube algorithm very well. Many times he will go trending with clickbait titles pertaining to the mental issue he is discussing in the particular video. In tandem with everything stated before, he is generating hours of free coaching, mentoring, and therapist content. He is making mental health available for anyone.

This is a huge jump in what we previously knew to be true. As the internet has grown, so have ways to access help for free. Dr K. is promoting a platform that is revolutionary. It’s allowing for free coaching for anyone – but primarily focused on the people with gaming addiction.

The reason HealthyGamer is so reputable is because Dr K. was once a gamer with an addiction, just as his audience has. He flunked out of Harvard, left America to become a monk, became more enlightened, then returned to finish his schooling. After the time spent to become enlightened, he realized how big of an issue gaming was for him and he knew he wasn’t alone in this. Although he had a more severe case, where he was failing out of classes to play games, he realized that people could still be addicted to video games while still being successful in academics. To prevent a downward spiral in this field, he specialized in gaming addiction as his doctoral thesis.

I think Dr K and HealthyGamer.GG one of the most reputable sources online for getting help with gaming addiction, finding what personal goals to pursue, and for overall free beneficial content to consume. The internet can be a nasty place, but with HealthyGamer and Dr. Alok Kanojia, we are one step closer to making it a better, more emotionally educated place.
